(ZEBULON, NC) – Nomaco is pleased to announce that Nomaflex joint filler products meet all standards for use in Concrete Paving and Structural Construction as identified by the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) in the society’s newest concrete construction international standard, ASTM D8139.
The recently published ASTM D8139 Standard Specification for Semi-Rigid, Closed-Cell Polypropylene Foam, Preformed Expansion Joint Fillers for Concrete Paving and Structural Construction sets rigorous requirements, test methods and tolerances that polypropylene foam joint fillers must adhere to when specified in construction.
“Nomaco is proud to say that Nomaflex meets and exceeds the ASTM D8139 physical property requirements for concrete expansion joint fillers, as verified by independent AASHTO APEL evaluation and testing results,” stated Larry Weimer, Technical Sales Manager for Nomaco.
Nomaflex, named one of the Most Innovative Products at World of Concrete in 2017, is a semi-rigid polypropylene foam joint filler product swiftly gaining popularity and acceptance throughout the United States. “We have had agencies, municipalities and concrete contractors telling our distributors that they would only use Nomaflex going forward,” said Weimer. “Nomaflex offers superior performance for the engineer, ease of use and less waste for the installer, while minimizing future maintenance and repairs for the end-user. It simply delivers added value to all involved.”
ASTM D8139 requires more stringent tests than existing standards for joint fillers such as D1751 “Standard Specification for Preformed Expansion Joint Filler for Concrete Paving and Structural Construction (Nonextruding and Resilient Bituminous Types).” The additional testing and physical property requirements to meet the new standard include UV Resistance, Freeze-Thaw Resistance, and Heat Resistance. The new standard also dictates less extrusion, higher compression recovery, and significantly less water absorption than required for D1751 compliance.
“By exceeding the standards set in ASTM D8139, Nomaflex easily meets the most critical requirements of D1751 and can be used as an ‘equal to or better’ alternative in any concrete expansion joint filler application where Nonextruding and Resilient Bituminous Types are used,” explained Weimer. “With ASTM D8139, the joint filler industry bar has been raised and Nomaflex has cleared it.”
