A leader in the $6 Billion wholesale bedding industry was experiencing compression, odor and mold issues with polyurethane (PU) foam components used in their beds. Through the IDEA™ process, Nomaco was able to design and develop a patent-pending solution using polyethylene (PE) foam that maintains profile height within the bed. Since Nomaco’s foam has a closed-cell structure, it does not absorb moisture or odors.
Nomaco’s custom-engineered solution provides a full perimeter support system, which helps the mattress maintain height and stability at the edge. The strength of Nomaco’s solution is that it can be engineered to meet the needs of the customer. If the customer requires compression strength to be greater on one side or needs the product to bend around a corner, either or both can be engineered into the foam product.

For this project, in addition to providing a better support solution that was resistant to mold and odors, Nomaco’s engineered products reduced the number of components within the bedding unit by 50%. This translates to fewer SKUs for the manufacturer to maintain and reduced logistics costs.
An amusement ride manufacturer was having difficulty with the coated polyurethane foam used on a specific water ride. The foam was scuffed and scraped during the ride’s normal operation, resulting in an unsightly appearance. Necessary repairs required the ride to be closed for a week to allow for labor and curing time as the foam was replaced and then recoated.

Nomaco developed a foamed interlocking modular wall system that reduced installation time by more than 75% and cut repair times from one week to one hour. With the interlocking polyethylene wall, panels can be inserted as needed, resulting in less down time. The color of the panels is the same throughout, so any damage to the panel only reveals the same color. The modular wall resulted in tremendous savings in labor and costs for the ride manufacturer and their customers.
What is efficiency? By definition it is 1) acting or producing effectively with a minimum of waste, expense or effort and 2) exhibiting a high ratio of output to input. At Nomaco, we provide foam efficiency with effective foam solutions in manufacturing and design that reduce waste, eliminate unnecessary work and, ultimately, lower the total cost of goods sold. Foam efficiency is a solution provided to every client we serve.
Partnering with our customers throughout the last decade, we have helped change the bedding industry by supplying custom foam solutions to major manufacturers as they transitioned to no-flip mattresses. We provide components used for side support, corner support, profile height, moisture barriers, perimeter wrap and many other bedding needs.
Nomaco’s IDEA™ process has helped a leader in the six-billion dollar bedding industry expand its market share through highly differentiated products. Since increasing the use of our custom-engineered foam solutions, this company has experienced a double-digit reduction in total cost of goods sold. Our foam inventions have become integral parts of a unique product offering that has solidified our customer’s leadership position.
When a solution was needed to hold springs in place and provide support, Nomaco developed a solid perimeter to surround the bedding and lock into the springs. This product supports and stabilizes the springs, and provides a smooth, uniform exterior shape.
As another component, Nomaco’s base pad provides added profile height for mattresses and aids in maintaining that height throughout the product life. It also acts as a moisture barrier within the product due to its closed-cell foam structure.
Incorporating Nomaco’s solutions over the years, this leading bedding manufacturer has reduced the number of SKUs within related products by more than 75%. The greater efficiencies realized also contributes to the company’s total cost of goods sold.
Irregularities and varying quality of natural cork wine closures lead to the common occurrences of random oxidation, cork taint, cork crumbs and cork breakage.
As an alternative to natural cork, Nomaco invented the Nomacorc®, bringing the industry a solution to the pervasive problem of cork taint and eliminating cork breakage and crumbling.
This synthetic closure was so innovative that it launched a new company, Nomacorc, in 1999 and forever changed the face of an industry. Today, Nomacorc is the world’s largest producer of alternative wine closures, providing winemakers, wine industry professionals and consumers with the peace of mind that their wines will be enjoyed exactly as the winemaker intended.
