A History of Innovation
In the spring of 1979, Marc Noël, newly emigrated from Belgium, established Nomaco in Ansonia, Connecticut, to manufacture pipe insulation. Originally a subsidiary of NMC, the Noël family business in Belgium, Nomaco brought the first direct extruded, flexible pipe insulation to the market in the United States.
Finding immediate success in the insulation business, Nomaco soon expanded the product portfolio to include foams for use in concrete construction. Marc began to see that the intrinsic properties of Nomaco’s extruded foam provided an almost limitless range of possible applications and markets. In subsequent years, capitalizing on the company’s rapidly expanding technological expertise in foam extrusion, Marc led Nomaco in many more market-changing innovations, including:
- Synthetic wine closures – Nomaco developed the original Nomacorc®, today the world’s best selling brand of wine closures. Nomacorc LLC became a separate company in 1999 and is today part of Vinventions, a global supplier of complete closure solutions.
- Pool noodles and rollers – Nomaco was instrumental in the creation and development of foam extrusions used as water toys and exercise/wellness products.
- Bedding – When the single-sided mattress revolution began, Nomaco partnered with the industry leader, introducing an entirely new, patented, innovative design utilizing high-performing foam profiles that resulted in improved performance, market differentiation, cost savings and significant sales growth.
The Company Today
Today, Nomaco is an independent company led by President Bryan Bunker with the help of the Strategic Leadership Team.
Mike Noël, Marc’s son, serves as Chairman, extending the Noël family legacy to a third generation.
Nomaco’s corporate headquarters located in Zebulon is part of a 90-acre campus that is also home to Noël Group companies: Nomaco Innovations, Herc, LLC, and Vinventions.
