Manufacturing Facility Brings New Jobs and $7 Million Investment

(Tarboro, NC) – With its 266,000 square foot manufacturing facility now operational, Spongex LLC, an affiliated division of Nomaco and Tarboro’s newest foam manufacturing plant, has brought 50 new jobs and a $7 million investment to the Edgecombe County town of Tarboro.

To celebrate the successful start up of this facility, Spongex opened its doors to local dignitaries and members of the community today with a grand opening & ribbon cutting event at 3002 Anaconda Road. Tarboro Mayor Donald Morris and Edgecombe County Commissioner Chairman Charlie Harrell welcomed the company, which anticipates an additional 50 jobs within the next three years.

“We are excited to bring this new manufacturing facility and these new jobs to Tarboro,” said Julian Young, president of Nomaco and Spongex. “We’re pleased to share our celebration with local officials and community members who supported our efforts in bringing this opportunity here. We foresee a bright future ahead for both Spongex and Nomaco.”
Using the unique Aqua Cell™ technology, Spongex manufactures a variety of molded, closed-cell foam products including luxury aquatic floats, aquatic exercise equipment, swim training accessories, pool and spa cushions, commercial floats and buoys, and custom-molded products.

Nomaco, a leading manufacturer of custom-engineered foam products has operated a manufacturing plant at 3006 Anaconda Road for the last 10 years. In addition to the proximity to its existing facility, the company chose to bring the new Spongex operation to the area because of the available workforce and welcoming community.

Nomaco and its parent company, Noël Group, purchased all technology, trademarks and brands associated with Spongex™ and Aqua Cell™, earlier this year. Spongex is now under the management of Nomaco, aligning the companies’ technologies and capabilities. Going forward, Spongex will serve as the retail division of Nomaco. With the successful opening of the new facility in Tarboro, Spongex operations have fully transitioned from Connecticut.

Headquartered in Zebulon, NC, Nomaco now has four manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Oklahoma with approximately 450 employees and more than 1.5 million square feet of combined manufacturing and warehousing space. Nomaco is the innovation leader in the transformation of custom-engineered foam. The company’s products are used in the home furnishing, transportation, recreation, agriculture, toy, packaging, construction, OEM appliance and marine industries.

In addition to Nomaco and Spongex, Noël Group manages five additional manufacturing companies that specialize in the transformation of engineered synthetic materials. These companies include Nomacorc, Nomaco Insulation, Nomaco K-Flex, Focal Point Architectural Products and Jyco Europe. Noël Group is headquartered in Wake Forest, NC.
